Obituary of Martin Oostoek

Martin J. Oosthoek, only son of Peter and Eva Oosthoek, was born in Jefferosn county, Iowa, Sept. 8, 1898, and departed this life at the Ottumwa hospital, August 5, 1925, aged 26 years, 10 months and 27 days. Almost his whole life was spent in Van Buren county. He received his education in the public schools and graduated in the Keosauqua high school with the class of 1918. He spent one year in the State Agricultural College at Ames. He was a student and reader and tried to keep abreast of the times. He was converted and united with the M.E. church at Kilbourne, during the pastorate of Rev. Young when 14 years of age and lived a consistent Christian life. He always tried to be of service in the work of the church, was a teacher in the Sunday school and for the past 3 years was superintendent. About a year and a half ago he suffered a serious illness from which he never fully recovered, but during it all he was patient and tried to make as little trouble as possible and was ever hopeful of the morrow. During his last short sickness he was resigned and gave assurance that all was well with him if his Savior called him home.

He leaves to mourn their loss his father, mother, one sister Edith and her husband, Leslie Cox, a nephew and niece, Walter and Wanda Cox, and a grandfather, also many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Aug. 7, at the Kilbourne church, by his pastor Rev. J.C. Austin, with burial at the nearby cemetery.
