Obituary of John H. Buckner.

John Henry, third son of Samuel and Matilda Buckner, was born in Missouri, April 8, 1864, and departed this life Sunday evening, April 1, 1923, at 9:30 o'clock, at his home in Keosauqua, aged 58 years, 11 months and 23 days. John had made his home in Keosauqua since two years of age. He was a devoted member of the A.M.E. church for many years. Was united in marriage to Henrietta Dickson in 1883. To this union were born six sons and five daughters. Two infant sons, John Henry and Dudley, and the eldest daughter Myrtle and the youngest daughter Leona preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, sons Clyde, Edward, Daniel and Biviard; daughters Maud, Rose and Irene; one granddaughter Geraldine; four brothers, Charley of Fresno, Cali.; Dudley, William and Ernest of Des Moines; three sisters, Mrs. Lida Hockedy of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Lucy Jeffers and Mrs. Emma Black of Washington, Iowa, and many other relatives besides a host of friends. John will be especially remembered by his many friends for his cheerful, obliging disposition, and to his family as a loving, watchful father, for to them:

A precious one from them has gone;
A voice they loved has stilled,
A place is vacant in the home,
Which never can be filled.
God in his wisdom has recalled
The boon his love had given,
And though the body slumbers here
The soul is safe in heaven.

For they loved him, but God loved him best. Funeral services were held at the A.M.E. church in Keosauqua, Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.C. Caughlan, pastor of the M.E. church of this place. Burial in Purdom cemetery.
