Obituary of Chas. Brewington.

Charles Brewington was born in Dearborn county, Indiana, June 18, 1841, and died at his home in Fairfield, Iowa, February 12, 1923, aged 81 years, 7 months and 24 days. He moved with his parents to Keosauqua, Iowa, in 1843, where he lived continuously until and after he enlisted in the army in Co. F, 2nd Iowa Infantry, May 1, 1861. He reinlisted Dec. 28, 1863, and was mustered out at the close of the war, July 12, 1865. He was married to Nancy M. Perry in Keokuk, Iowa, September 20, 1870. To this union 11 children were born, all of whom are living except Mrs. Lucy E. Schreckengost, who died August 3, 1911. He is survived by his wife, 10 children, 22 grandchildren and one brother, Will, of Fairfield. The children living are Arthur Brewington, of Des Moines; Mrs. Agnes Struehrk, of Oskaloosa; Thomas Brewington, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Barbara Schroder, Stanley Brewington, Mrs. Mary Barker, of Fairfield; Mrs. Ethel Barker of Des Moines; Mrs. Ruby Strean, of Brook Park, Minn.; Boyd and Edgar of Fairfield. All the children were present when death came except Mrs. Strean. He had been a member of the M.E. church for a number of years, first at Keosauqua and later in Fairfield. Funeral services were in charge of Rev. C.L. Tennant and the G.A.R., of which he was a member. The pall bearers were members of the American Legion. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield, February 15.
