Mayme Poling, a daughter of Benjamin and Minnie McGaffey Cook, was born Dec. 21, 1902 in Van Buren County and died early Wednesday Nov. 9, 1983 at her home in Country Lane Apartments in Keosauqua.

On June 14, 1919 she married Will Poling of Douds at Keosauqua. They lived near Douds, in Pittsburg and in Cantril. Mr. Poling died in 1981, after which she moved into Country Lane Apartments.

Remaining are two sons, William "Bud" of Hawthorne Woods, Ill., and John "Frankie" of Fairfield, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was the last of a family of six children. In addition to her husband, a daughter, Louise Cole, preceded her in death.

Mayme was a long-time member of Beer-Barker Unit, American Legion Auxiliary. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, a good neighbor and friend.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 12, 1983 at 10 a. m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Internment was in Pittsburg Cemetery. A memorial was established for the Keosauqua Senior Citizens Center.
