Roy Ramsey Was Lifelong Resident
David Roy Ramsey, son of David Ramsey and Laura Taylor Ramsey, was born Feb. 24, 1855, on a farm near Birmingham, and passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 17, at his home in Mt. Sterling, aged 66 years, seven months and 23 days. His entire life was spent in Van Buren County.
On Oct. 4, 1911 he was united in marriage to Nellie McGaffey of Keosauqua. They settled on a farm southwest of Birmingham, where they lived until 1940, when they moved to Keosauqua. In 1941 they moved to a farm near Mt. Zion, where Mr. Ramsey engaged in farming until the past year, when they moved to Mt. Sterling.
To this union was born one daughter, Lillian, now Mrs. Joe Williams of Keosauqua.
Mr. Ramsey is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nellie Ramsey, his daughter, Mrs. Joe Williams, and two grandchildren, Lila Lee Ratliff and Steven Ramsey Williams of Keosauqua.
Two brothers, William Harry Ramsey and Allen Ramsey, both of Birmingham, and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Mathies of Birmingham and Mrs. Ed Mercer of Packwood, Iowa also survive. Two brothers and a sister died in infancy.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Burton C. Bastuscheck at the Burnett-Catcott Funeral home Saturday afternoon, Oct. 20, at 2 o'clock. Burial was in the Maple Hill cemetery.
