Lon L. McLeland, son of William E. and Isabel McLeland, was born February 12, 1877, in Des Moines township, Van Buren County, Iowa, and met with a railroad accident near his home at Bruel, Nebraska, May 15, 1918, which caused his death. He was united in marriage to Stella Stott, Dec. 25, 1899. To this union two children were born, a little girl dying in infancy and a son, Eldred, who survives him. Stella, his wife, passed away Aug. 17, 1902. On April 3, 1904, he was united in marriage to Dora Barker, of Milton, Iowa. To this union were born three daughters, Gladys, Lela and Hazel, who with a loving wife and son Eldred are left to mourn for him.
Besides these he leaves a loving mother, six brothers, and one sister, as follows: Harvey and Frank, of Milton, Iowa; George of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Clarence E., of Mount Sterling, Iowa; Ray of Bruel, Nebr.; Harry of Camp Dodge; and Blanche Lee of Cantril, Iowa. His father preceded him in death Feb. 13, 1918.
This has always been his home with the exception of a few years spent in Nebraska, which was his home at the time of his death, near Bruel. When a young man he was converted and joined the M. E. Church at Cantril, under the pastorate of Rev. B. M. Boydston, and always lived a consistent Christian life. He was a kind and loving father, and obliging friend and neighbor and respected by all who knew him.
The funeral was held from the M.E. Church in Milton, Sunday afternoon, May 19, conducted by Rev. Jones, of Cantril, and the remains laid to rest in the Cantril cemetery.
