James F. McIntosh ~ 1895-1960

James F. McIntosh passed away on Friday evening, Nov. 25, at the Van Buren County Memorial hospital at the age of 65 years and one month. He had been in ill-health the past three months and was admitted to the hospital on the afternoon prior to his death. The son of Frank and Sara Pate McIntosh, he was born at Keosauqua on Oct. 25, 1895, the next to the youngest of 11 children.

At the age of six, the family moved to the country near Keosauqua where he attended a rural school. When he was 12, they returned to Keosauqua to make their home. At the age of 16, he began employment as a printer for Rowley and Landess on The Republican newspaper at Keosauqua, a position he held for many years.

After leaving the printing profession he received various other employment until his ill health three months go (sic) forced him to retire.

Jim and his sister, Margaret made their home with their mother, caring for her for several years until her death. Sometime later, he took up residence alone. He was unmarried.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Minnie May, Alice, Blanche, Nell and Mary Helen and two brothers, John William and Harrison who passed away on Oct. 19, 1960.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Bruce (Margaret) Strait of Keosauqua, two brothers, Daniel of Milton and Craig of Titusville, Fla., nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Burnett-Catcott Funeral home with Rev. E.S. Tschetter officiating. Interment was in Purdom cemetery.

There is a handwritten date of 1960 on this obit. rr
