Daniel Boone McIntosh of Milton died Thursday morning, July 6, at 8 a.m. at the Van Buren County Memorial hospital at the age of 80 years and 10 months. Following an illness since March of this year and serious illness requiring hospitalization since June 7.

Born on Sept. 6, 1880, the son of Cyrus Frances and Sarah Pate McIntosh, near Pittsburg, Ia., he was one of 11 children. He attended Van Buren County rural schools and the Keosauqua Public school, moving to Milton when a young man where he made his home with an uncle and aunt, Charley and Clara McIntosh. Following Mr. McIntosh’s death, Dan made a home for his aunt. He was never married.

He was employed by Van Buren County for a number of years and at a produce house and a grocery store in Milton until his ill health forced him to retire.

He was a member and Elder of the Milton Christian church and was active in church affairs and work as long as his health permitted. He served as president of the McIntosh Clan at their annual reunions for the past approximately 35 years.

From March of 1961, when ill health overtook him, he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Bruce Strait and Mr. Strait at Keosauqua, until his hospitalization.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Nellie, Minnie, Alice, Blanche and Mary Helen and three brothers, William J., Harrison and James.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Margaret Strait of Keosauqua; one brother, Craig McIntosh of Titusville, Fla.; a brother-in-law, sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 8, at 2 p.m. at the Milton Christian church with Rev. Lowell Paulson in charge. Burial was in Milton cemetery.
