Dr. F.W. McIntosh
A veteran osteopath, former businessman of Keosauqua, Dr. F.W. McIntosh of Burlington died Wednesday, July 12 at 4 p.m. at the Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital in Kirksville, Mo., at the age of 63 years 11 months and 12 days, following a serious illness of one year.
The son of John W. and Minnie Luke McIntosh, he was born on July 22, 1897 in Keosauqua. He attended public school graduating with the class of 1917.
He attended Iowa Wesleyan college and later attended Still College of Osteopathy and Surgery where he graduated in 1928. His practice in Keosauqua included obstetrics and minor surgery. He re-located in Burlington opening his office on Feb. 15, 1956 after selling his property in Keosauqua in October, 1955 and moving to Burlington.
On Dec. 8, 1935, he married Judith Marie Scott of Fairfield, in Keosauqua, who survives. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge at Fairfield and the Keosauqua Methodist church.
Survivors besides his wife include two sons, LCDR Frances W. McIntosh, Naval Hospital, Millington, Naval Air Force Base, Tenn.; HMC Jene McIntosh, Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Md.; his mother, Mrs. Minnie McIntosh; two brothers, Dr. J.A. McIntosh of Keosauqua; TSgt. H.E. McIntosh of Fairfield, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Lola Gilbert and Mrs. Margaret Gray of Keosauqua; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers, Leonard, Robley and an infant.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at the Burnett-Catcott Funeral home in Keosauqua with a long-time friend, Rev. Albert H. Peterson of Ottumwa in charge. Burial was in Center Chapel cemetery.
A Memorial Fund has been established to be given to the Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital in Dr. McIntosh’s memory. Burnett-Catcott Funeral home is in charge of the fund.
