Mrs. Martha A. King was born in Wiggs county, Ohio, September 17, 1837, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis Sperback of near Leando, June 9, 1909.aged 72 years, 9 months, and 2 days. She came from Ohio to Van Buren county, Iowa, in the year 1867, where she lived continually except eight months when she resided in California.
When a girl she became a Christian, taking fellowship with the Baptist Church of which she remained a member until death.
Mrs. King was the mother of three children, one of whom, Harry, preceeded her to the great beyond. Two daughters survive her, Mrs. L. Sperback and Mrs. Louis Plowman, both of whom live near Leando. She also leaves two half sisters, Mrs. Wm. Lauman and Mrs. Holcomb Brodine, and two half brothers, John and Marion Lee. The funeral was very largely attended. Rev. W. H. Jones preached the funeral sermon and the body was laid to rest in the Leando cemetery.
