In July 1884 he was united in marriage to Laura I Wooley and this happy union lasted for 54 years. His wife passed away March 1, 1938. In Sept. 1884 he brought his bride to the farm where he resided for 56 years.

To this union was born five children, Verna Hissem, Alma Hissem, Delber, Wilmer, Willa Plowman all of Douds.

Besides his children he leaves to mourn his passing 2 son-in-laws George and Weldon Hissem and his daughter-in-law Anna Plowman. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and a host of friends and will be sadly missed by the community in which he had spent so many years.

Many changes have occurred to this community since he brought his bride to their one room log cabin surrounded by timber. He was an outstanding leader in the community working for public improvements, always interested in anything for the betterment of mankind. He was a kind and loving husband and father always interested in his children. His deep appreciation of any kind act was a striking characteristic of his personality.
