Joseph Stacy Marriott ~ 1895-1919

Joseph Stacy Marriott was born in Clark county, Missouri, Sept. 17, 1895, and passed away at the hospital in Keokuk, Iowa, June 19, 1919, at the age of 23 years, 9 months and 2 days. He was the only son of William and Leona Marriott and the eldest of 4 children. He was married Aug. 28, 1914, to Miss Vergil Blackledge and to this union were born two children, Charlie William and John Paul. He is survived by his wife, two little sons, father, mother, two sisters, Pluma and Lela, a halfbrother, 3 grandparents and other relatives and friends. One sister, Florence, preceded him to the Great Beyond nearly two years ago. His death, which came with a suddenness that surprised and shocked the entire community, was caused by appendicitis. He took sick last Saturday morning and was hurried to the hospital Sunday and tho all care and medical skill was given him it was of no avail and his spirit took its flight to the Father who gave it. He was loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed both in the home and everywhere else. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. from the Presbyterian church in Bentonsport, in charge of Rev. Mason, of Hamilton, Ill. Burial was in the Vernon cemetery.
