Gwendolyn Eileen Smutz was born June 12, and died of pneumonia February 22, 1919, having lived eight months and eleven days. She was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Smutz living near Stockport, Iowa.

This sweet flower, dropped in the lap of motherhood, endeared herself to all by her darling baby ways. Her mission on earth was soon accomplished and now her hands are beckoning from the other side to those she has left behind.

She leaves to mourn her early departure, beside her parents and her four grandparents, a large number of aunts and uncles and other relatives.

Little hands forever stainless,
Little hands as pure as they,
Little feet by angels guided
Never a forbidden way.
They are going – ever going
Leaving many a lonely spot;
But ‘tis Jesus who has called them
Suffer and forbid them not.

Funeral services were held at home Tuesday afternoon, February 25, Rev. J.S. Coppoc of Bonaparte, preaching the sermon. Interment was in the Hillsboro cemetery.
