Death Comes To Miss Overman
Miss Helen Madeline Overman, a resident of Ottumwa for 57 years, died at 6 p.m. Thursday at her home, 631 North Court street.
Miss Overman was born in Keosauqua, the daughter of William Charles and Carrie Ellen Overman. She came to Ottumwa in young womanhood, attended Ottumwa public schools and taught later in a local business college. She was cashier for the J.G. Hutchison & Co. wholesale grocery for many years.
She also was active in many church and civic organizations. She was city Christmas seal sale chairman for a number of years, was active in the Red Cross, was a member of the First Methodist church, chapter G of P.E.O., the D.A.R., Unity and K.W.E.O. clubs. She was a charter member of the Mizpah circle of The King's Daughters.
Miss Overman was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Hazel, and a brother, John.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Jay funeral home. The Rev. Paul M. Hann, D.D., pastor of the First Methodist church, will be in charge. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery.
