STOCKPORT - Mrs. Jay Johnston, 76, died at 4 p.m., Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa. She had been in failing health the past six months and seriously ill the past three weeks.
The family will receive friends and relatives tonight from 7:30 to 9 p.m., at the Weston Behner Funeral home in Fairfield.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m., at the Stockport Christian Church with the Rev. Carl E. Mast officiating. Burial will be in the Spencer Cemetery near Stockport.
Mary Alice Johnston was born Nov. 6, 1897, at Brinkley, Ark., the daughter of George and Sally O'Hare Goodwin.
She was married to Jay Johnston on July 18, 1913. They lived in the Stockport community for over 50 years.
She is survived by her husband, seven daughters and one son, Mrs. Wilma Smith of Fairfield, Mrs. John Arndt of Fairfield, Mrs. Eugene Slocum of West Burlington, Mrs. Elvin Gundy of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Carl Silvernail of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Derrald Kauffman of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Don Fraizer of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Jay Johnston, Jr., of Redwood, Calif., 32 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, one son and one daughter.
