On Thursday evening, Jan. 12, at their home one mile south of Mt. Sterling, occurred the death of little Vivian Eileen Prall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Prall. Vivian had the flu, but had seemed to be recovering for a week, then had a terrible coughing spell which left her very weak, but she was still thought to be recovering until Thursday morning she took worse with that dread disease, pneumonia, and passed away that evening. The entire community was shocked and saddened for no child in the community was more loved or had more friends. Her ready smile went to everyone, and her happy disposition won for her the friendship of everyone who knew her.Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the M.E. church at Mt. Sterling, Rev. John Porath, a special friend of Vivian's, officiated Rev. Gilbert. Three beautiful songs were sung by Mrs. Beatrice Parson, another special friend, Mrs. Helen Van Auken, a former teacher, and Oletha Shriver, a roommate at Keosauqua where Vivian was a member of the freshman class in high school. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Kerr, Harold Shriver, Norris Watson, Edith Madden, Marion Dunshee, Gladys Breckenridge, Cheryl Hamburg and Nelda Hamilton. This was the class that she had gone through the grade school with. Pallbearers were Elmer Kerr, Arthur Hamlet, Ernest Campbell, Carl Anderson, Wm. Roberts and Allan Drummond. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
The grief stricken parents and brother have the sympathy of everyone. The brother has just recovered from pneumonia and the mother is slowly recovering from the same disease. Sorrowing friends filled the church and yard and she was laid to rest in the new addition to the Cantril cemetery.
