Fatal Accident.

On Sunday last, Mr. Geo. Anderson, residing on the south side of the river and opposite Independent, this county, lost his life by the accidental discharge of his gun in the following manner: It appears that he, in company with two companions, had arranged to go out in the timber for the purpose of gathering hickory nuts. Before leaving home it was suggested that by taking his gun along he could kill a mess of squirrels. As he took the gun from the rack he remarked that it had not been used for so long that it was doubtful whether it would go off. After reaching the timber for the purpose of ascertaining whether the gun was loaded, he placed the butt upon the ground, p this mouth to the muzzle to blow down the barrel, then placed his foot on the hammer and raised it from the tube, and while in this position his foot slipped, the hammer flew back to the tube, and a load which had been in the gun for over a year was discharged, the whole contents passing through his mouth and out the back of his head, killing him instantly. The remains of the unfortunate man were carried home and on Monday last the grave covered the body of Mr. Anderson.
