Mrs. Charles Beer

Mary Elizabeth Stephens, daughter of George P. and Susan Simons Stephens, was born at Hillboro, Iowa, Nov. 5, 1862, and passed away at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Harry Beer, in Keosauqua, Iowa, Sept. 19, 1936, aged 72 years, 10 months and 14 days.

She was one of a family of eight children, six girls and two boys. There were also two half brothers and one half sister.

She was married to Charles M. Beer July 3, 1883, at the old home near Bentonsport, Iowa.

There were born to this union three children - one daughter who died in infancy, and Oletha and Linette.

Nov. 23, 1893, Mrs. Beer united with the Christian church in Keosauqua. She was also a member of the Rebecca lodge here.

About 19 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Beer moved to Bend, Ore., to make their home, where she continued her activity in both church and lodge.

She and her husband had been making an extended visit among relatives and friends during the past few months.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, two daughter, Mrs. Oletha Berglund and Mrs. Linnette and one granddaughter, Muriel Berglund; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Snider of Bentonsport, Iowa, Mrs. Eliza Mickens of Laton, Calif., and Mrs. Flora Roper of Topeka, Kan.; two brothers, John Stpehens of Bedford, Iowa, and Nathaniel Stephens of Mountain Grove, Mo., besides many other relatives and friends.

Her funeral, conducted by Rev. Jennie E. Nickle assisted by Rev. E.L. Nickle, was held at the Keosauqua Christian church at two o'clock Sept. 21, 1935. Interment was in Fellows cemetery.
