Ulysses Grant Beer (Tobe) was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, July 27, 1865. He was married to Miss Ethel Van Zant, of Farmington, Iowa, March 31, 1908. To this union two children were born, both dying in infancy.

Tobe came west almost ten years ago and has made his home with his only sister and her husband until his death, April 28, 1938.

He leaves to mourn his passing Mrs. George Swiers the sister, also one nephew, Stanley D. Swiers and a niece, Mrs. W.T. Phillips all of Portland, Oregon. He made many friends since coming to Oregon which was manifest by the many beautiful floral offerings. A number of Iowans attended his funeral which was held at the Chapel of the Mt. Scott Funeral Home, April 30, 1938, at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. David Hardy, pastor of Laurelwood M.E. church. Mrs. Madelene Petri rendered the songs "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" very beautifully. Concluding services and interment Multnomah cemetery.
