FUNERAL HELD THURSDAY

Mrs. Leon Mitchell Buried in I.O.O. F. Cemetery by side of Baby

Hundreds of friends and relatives attended the funeral services for Mrs. Leo Mitchell which were held at the First Methodist church in Bloomfield Thursday afternoon at two o’clock.

Rev. H.F. Gilbert of Milton, assisted by Rev. M.E. Nethercut, conducted the services. The pallbearers were Clell M. Leonard and Neil Corrick of Bloomfield, James Cooley, Stanley Cecil, Harold Tackleson and Lamar Leaverton of Milton.

Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Miss Grace Reynolds, Mrs. K.D. Melcher, H. Ostergaard and Walter Davis with Miss Alma Leonard at the pipe organ. Members of the Milton high school class of ‘24 of which Mrs. Mitchell was a member, attended the services in a body.

Gladys Belle McLeland, daughter of Lon and Dora (Barker) McLeland, was born in Palisade, Nebraska, on May 1, 1906, and lived there until the family moved to Milton, Iowa, in 1918, following the death of her father. She attended the Milton public schools and graduated from the high school at that place with the class of 1924. She also was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Milton.

During the school year of 1924-25, she taught at the Craven Point school in Davis county. On May 9, 1925, she was united in marriage to Leo E. Mitchell of Bloomfield, son of Mr. & Mrs. Frank Mitchell, and with her husband established their happy home in this city where Mr. Mitchell was employed.

A baby boy, Floyd Dwight, was given into her tender care on July 17, 1926, but he was unable to successfully cope with vicissitudes of life and passed away on Monday, August 2. The next day at five-thirty the mother, too, passed peacefully out of this life into another and joined her dear one in their eternal home.

She is survived by her husband, Leo E. Mitchell, her mother, Mrs. Dora McLeland, two sisters, Lela and Hazel, and brother Eldred.
