Young Man Killed By Falling Tree
The tragic death of Gerald Thompson,
South of BonaparteGerald Thompson was killed by a falling tree on Tuesday, Dec. 29, while at work in the Kirk Perkins timber southeast of Bonaparte.
He and his brother, Roy were working on the same tree and when the tree fell it twisted from the stump, bounced and struck both of them. Gerald was fatally injured by Roy escaped with minor bruises.
The accident happened between 9 and 10 o’clock and Gerald lived until about 4:30. He was 18 years of age and a member of the Junior class of the Bonaparte high school.
He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Seth Thompson who live on what is known as the Frank Perkins farm near the Hickory school house southeast of Bonaparte. His mother is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Perkins now of Farmington.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the M.E. church in Farmington, interment in Farmington cemetery.
Earl and Clayton, two other brothers of the deceased, were at work in the same timber.
