At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Meek, on Nov. 23, 1898, occurred the death of one of our oldest citizens, Mrs. Sarah A. Cresap.

She was born in Cumberland, Maryland, March 4, 1817, being the daughter of Wm. and Mary Hoblitzell -- the oldest of four children, and the last leaf from the tree.

She was a resident of Cumberland until her marriage with Michael S. Cresap, Feb'y. 28, 1837, when she removed to Summerset County, Penn., where she resided until 1855, when she removed to Bonaparte, Iowa, and has been a resident of this community ever since.

She was the mother of twelve children, eight of whom survive her. They are: G. M. Cresap, of Elizabethtown, Ky, Mrs. Mary Eason, Mrs. Laura Henkle, Mrs. Maria Smith, Mrs. Sarah Coolidge, and Mrs. Margaret Meek, all of Bonaparte, Wm. T. Cresap, Cora, Montana, and Ross Cresap, Vine Grove, Ky.

She was the grandmother of twenty-five children, and the great grandmother of three children.

Her husband died Feb. 5, 1882, since which time she has resided with her children, making her home with Mrs. Meek for the past 13 years.

She was a faithful wife and mother, a lover of home, charitable and always ready to help any who might come. She was never idle, and if she commenced a piece of work, it must be finished. -- Never wanted to leave anything undone. She was a great reader and lover of the bible. She united with the Bonaparte Presbyterian church Nov. 21, 1877, and has since been a faithful member.

On Tuesday Nov. 15th, she received a severe apoplectic stroke, from which she never rallied, dying Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 10:35 P.M.. The funeral services occurred from the Presbyterian church in Bonaparte, Friday afternoon, Nov. 25, 1898, the services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. H. Scofield.
