Nicholas and Hannah Boley ~ 1835-1915

Nicholas Boley, son of George and Catherine Boley, was born in Harrison county, Indiana, Jan. 5th, 1835. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1839, settling one mile west of Hillsboro and was united in marriage to Hannah Smutz, Dec. 24th, 1857. Mr. Boley was the oldest of a family of four children, all of whom have preceded him to the heavenly home. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L.A. Runyon, March 19, 1915, after an illness of two days, in his 81st year. In faith, Mr. Boley was a Baptist, having united with the Free Baptist church of Hillsboro Aug. 15th, 1863.

Hannah Boley died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L.A. Runyon, Thursday, March 18th, 1915. Hannah Smutz, daughter of David and Eleanor Smutz, was born in Westmoreland Co., Penn., Oct. 3rd, 1835, and came with her parents to Iowa in 1855, settling two and one-half miles west of Hillsboro, Iowa. She was a charter member of the Hillsboro Free Baptist church, having united together with thirteen others to form this church, May 19, 1855. She was united in marriage to Nicholas Boley, Dec. 24, 1857. To this union were born eight children, all of whom are living, except one daughter, Lucinda McCoy, who died May 30, 1908. They are Sylvester G., Melissa, (Mrs. George Hoaglin), Ida (Mrs. L.A. Runyon), D. Mark, J. William, Geo. W., and Benjamin R. These together with twenty-seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren mourn the loss of Father and Mother Boley. Sister Boley has three brothers and one sister still living. They are, Randall Smutz of Hillsboro, Colby Smutz of Pawnee City, Nebr., Mark Smutz of Dalls, Oregon, and Mrs. Mary Syfert of Hillsboro.
