Mrs. James Batchelor ~ 1863-1929

Mary Ellen Fellows, daughter of Gavitt and Josephine Fellows, was born Nov. 19, 1863, near Keosauqua, and passed away at her home in Bonaparte, Iowa, Dec. 17, 1929, aged 66 years and 28 days.

She grew to womanhood in her home community and taught school in Van Buren county for ten years. On Nov. 12, 1891, she was united in marriage to J.W. Batchelor of Bonaparte. They went to housekeeping near Bonaparte and lived there for 17 years, thence removing to Keosauqua for a short time, then moving to Bonaparte, which place has since been their home.

Mrs. Batchelor was conscientious in all her thinking and doing and identified herself with the Church of the Latter Day Saints. She was also a member of O.E.S., Magnolia Chapter 276, and the Royal Neighbors. She has been in frail health for some time, yet bore her affliction with a Christian spirit. Death came peacefully and unexpectedly on Dec. 17th.

She leaves to mourn her going, her faithful husband, J.W. Batchelor and one brother, Owen Fellows of Mesa, Ariz.

Funeral services were conducted on Dec. 19, 1929, from the M.E. church at Bonaparte, in charge of Rev. M.D. Cox of Keosauqua. Interment at Thompson cemetery.
