Robert Franklin Edwards, son of Robert and Eva Edwards, was born in Slansville, Hampshire County, West Virginia, August 18, 1843, and departed this life at his home near Stockport August 17, 1929, only two hours before his 86th birthday. He was next to the youngest of ten children, all of whom have preceded him to the Great Beyond.
March 8, 1866, he was united in marriage to Susan R. Funk, of West Virginia, who remains to mourn the loss of a loving husband. To this union eight children were born. Two passing away in infancy. The six living are Edward, of Ft. Madison; Mrs. William Stout of Fairfield; Lenard, Mrs. Lafe Knowles and George of Stockport and Claude of Farmington.
Besides the wife and children he leaves to mourn their loss, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr. Edwards united with the M.E. Church in early manhood and remained a consistent Christian to the last. He always took an active part in the welfare of his community and in bringing the very best things to his family.
Funeral services were held from the late home Monday afternoon, August 19th, at 2:00 o’clock, in charge of Rev. Hunting pastor of the Friends Church in Salem, Ia. The male quartette (sic)which sang his favorite songs consisted of Perry and Frank Smith, E.G. Workman and C.L. Beswick. Interment in the Spencer cemetery.
