OBITUARY OF SARAH BROOKS
Sarah Harmon, daughter of John and Hannah Harmon was born January 6th, 1839, in Jackson township, Morgan county, Ohio, and departed this life August 21, 1924, at her son's home near Douds at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 15 days.
She was united in marriage to George Washington Brooks, Nov. 8th, 1869. To this union six children were born, four having preceded her in dead, Ira, Oliver, George and his twin sister. Those living are John Brooks and Mrs. Ella Zeitler, both of Douds, Iowa. One step-son, Charlie Brooks of Oberlin, Kansas; eleven grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and one sister Nancy Hale of Milton, Iowa, besides many relatives and friends who will mourn their loss of one who hath done what she could.
She was one of a family of 14 children, moving to Iowa with her father's family when a young girl in the year 1848. She saw much of the hardships of the pioneer's life. Her father entered land northeast of Milton and she lived in the vicinity ever since, and on the same farm for more than 50 years, until 2 years ago, failing health caused her to give up housekeeping and live with her children.
