Lydia E. Leaverton Stott 1853-1928

MRS. JOSEPH STOTT

Lydia E. Leaverton, daughter of John A. and Martha Ellen Leaverton, was born in the year 1853 near Cantril, Iowa. She lived and grew to womanhood on the farm and was there united in marriage to Joseph Stott, December 5, 1868. To this union ten children were born, two of whom, with her husband Joseph Stott, preceded her in death.

For the last few years she made her home with her son Oren, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she died June 10, 1928, ot [sic] the age of seventy-five years.

Her's was a useful and devoted Christian life. At the age of thirteen she united with the Methodist Protestant church. Later she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and was a faithful and devoted member of this church.

During her more active days, she was never too busy to go when needed to look after and wait on the sick, always considerate and ready and anxious to relieve the suffering wherever found.

She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Mattie Proctor, of Gooding, Idaho; Mrs. Icy Abernathey and Myrtle of Weatherford, Okla.; five sons, Oren of Weatherford, Okla.; Harry, of Chicago, Olliver of Joplin, Mo.; Calvin and John of Cantril, Iowa; twenty-one grand children, two great grandchildren, and one brother, Alvin Leaverton, of Cantril, Iowa.

Funeral services were held from the M. E. church at Cantril in charge of Rev. A. W. Truitt. The pallbearers were her brother, Alvin Leaverton and her five sons Olliver, Oren, John, Alvin and Harry. Interment was in the Maple Grove cemetery beside her husband who passed away in June 1907.
