W.J. Kirkhart

Wyatt Jack Kirkhart, son of John and Evelyn Kirkhart, was born January 15, 1855, near Stockport, Iowa, and passed away at his home near Cantril at 4:15 Tuesday morning, following a lingering illness, aged 81 years, 10 months.

At the age of 15, he joined the Baptist church at Stockport. Later, he moved with his parents to Milton, Iowa. Here he joined the Woodman Lodge.

December 25, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Johnson at the home of her parents near Birmingham, Iowa. To this union were born eight children, Mrs. Rose Smith, Mrs. Ernest Powell, Roy, John and Robert Kirkhart of Cantril; Mrs. Etta Graham, Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Ada Manning, Douds, and Pearl Kirkhart of Libertyville.

Mr. Kirkhart spent most of his life on a farm near Cantril. His uppermost thoughts were his family and companion. He leaves to mourn, his wife, 8 children, 24 grand children, 7 great grand children, two brothers, Wylie Kirkhart, Long Beach, Calif.; Scott of Boyd, Mont.; three sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Morris of Milton; Mrs. Kate Corwin, Long Beach, Calif.; and Mrs. Ella Alton, Carson, Ia.

Funeral was held from the Cantril Methodist church, Thursday, in charge of Rev. O.B. Rogers of Keota, a former pastor. The singers were Mrs. A.M. Hadley, Mrs. J.D. Price, John Van Fleet and B.C. Casady, accompanist, Mrs. O.B. Rogers. Pall bearers were the grandsons, as follow: Ross Graham, Robert Manning, Paul and Wayne Powell, Jesse and Edgar Kirkhart. Burial was in Cantril cemetery.
