Mrs. Delphina Doane

Delphina Pickard, daughter of Labon and Rhoda Pickard, was born March 5, 1857, near Salem, Iowa, where she lived until she was united in marriage to David T. Doane September 1, 1875.

She and her husband lived near Cottonwood until 1909, when they moved to Stockport, where they resided until her husband's death October, 1929. After this she lived alone for several years. She spent the two last years with her daughters, Fannie Alice Watson and Minnie Rachael Gracey, both of near Stockport.

Nov. 4, 1935 she passed away in the home of the latter, after an illness of six weeks. She and her husband united with the Chestnut Hill church early in their married life, later they placed their membership with the Stockport Friends Church.

High ideals were set forth by Mrs. Doane all her life, which gave expression in many kind deeds among her neighbors and friends.

Delphina Doane was the third child of a family of ten. Two brothers, Henry and Lidof preceded her in death.

Besides the two daughters, she leaves to mourn her departure two grand-daughters, Mrs. J.D. Alexander, of Chicago; and Miss Leola Gracey, a graduate nurse, of Burlington, who cared for her grandmother during her last illness.

Surviving are the following: Mary E. Doane, of Haddom, Kan.; Wm. Pickard, of Eugene, Ore.; Mrs. C.A. Hanshaw, Gridley, Cal.; Jacob Pickard, Calumet, Okla.; Mrs. W.A. Nixon, Cottage Grove, Ore.; Mrs. L.L. Angstead, Roseville, Calif.; Gilbert Pickard, of Clyde, Kan.; and many other relatives and friends.

A loving and kind mother from us has gone and will be sorely missed.

A short funeral service was held at the home Thursday afternoon, then at the Salem Friends church, where the regular service was held. The Rev. Guy Hunting, assisted by the Rev. L.E. McCargar, of Stockport, officiated. Interment was in the Salem cemetery.
