Mrs. Floy Mort Kerr

Floy, daughter of William and Elsie Pike Mort was born near Coin, Page county, Iowa January 19, 1880. When she was four years old her mother passed away. Mr. Mort then brought his two children, Thomas Elmer and Floyd to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Mort, north of Pittsburg, where his sister, Miss Jennie Mort cared for them and gave them wonderful Christian training.

After some years Mr. Mort married, Miss Sara Peacock, then Floy had two homes living part time in each until her marriage to Samuel Clyde Kerr April 7, 1899 by Rev. R.L. Patterson. Two them were born four daughters, Elsie, wife of Rev. Reynolds Murdock, who preceded her mother in death only three days; Mrs. Ethelyn Bensmiller, Portland, Oregon; Letha, who died Dec. 8, 1918, at the age of 13 years; Mrs. Helen Beer, of Chicago; and one son, William, of Fairfield, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Murdock spent all their married life north of Pittsburg until about five years ago, they moved to Fairfield, where she passed away very suddenly Saturday afternoon at 2:30, Dec. 21, 1935, aged 55 years, 11 months and two days. She had been an invalid for months, every day of which she displayed the most wonderful Christian spirit and patient fortitude that has characterized her whole life.

She was always cheerful, optimistic and an ideal daughter, wife and mother. Being raised in a Christian home, it is not strange that at the age of 16 years she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and united with the Pittsburg M.E. church under the pastorate of Rev. H.C. Gilbert, remaining loyal and faithful until God called her to her heavenly home.

On moving to Fairfield, she placed her membership in the First M.E. church there, but her health has never permitted her to attend the services for a long time.

Mrs. Kerr is survived by her aged father, William Mort, two half-sisters, Mrs. Edna Wilson and Mrs. Mabel Burchett, all of Keosauqua; her husband, two daughter, one son and three grandchildren who, with all who knew her mourn the passing of a loving relative and friend.

Short funeral services were held at a Fairfield funeral ho0me in charge of Dr. U.S. Smith, followed by the service at the Pittsburg church, conducted by a former pastor, J.C. Austin.

Interment was in the Pittsburg cemetery.
