Gustavus Keller

Gustavus Keller, son of Gustavus and Madelion Keller, was born in Cedar Township, Jefferson county, Iowa on May 14, 1850, and passed away Feb. 2, 1936 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Laurence Silver, of Stockport, at the age of 85 years, 8 months, 18 days. On Feb. 18, 1873, he was united in marriage to Catherine Mary Oriez, of Jefferson County, Iowa. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on Feb. 18, 1934, and since that time his health has gradually declined. Although his health had been failing, he was bedfast for only about three weeks. He was very patient throughout his lingering illness and always met everyone with a smile.

Ten children were born to this union, two of them, Millie and Roy, preceding him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing eight children, 27 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.

The children are: Mrs. Anna Reed, of Fairfield; Mrs. Minnie Rubey, of Mt. Union, Iowa; Mrs. Cora Silver, of Stockport; Frank, Jule and John, of Fairfield, Iowa; Gus, of Saskatchewan, Canada; and Lue, of Dundee, Michigan.

He was the last remaining member of his family, as all of his brothers and sisters have preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Feb. 4th. Short prayer at home, services at M.E. church in Stockport. Rev. Allison and Stevens were in charge, and he was laid to rest in Wright cemetery near his old home in Jefferson county.

The choir services were by: Mrs. W.H. Spencer, Miss Edna Crawford, Perry Smith, and Maurice McGlothen.

The pall bearers were six grandchildren, Marshal, Ralph, Floyd and Leland Keller; Earl and Verne Reed.
