Laura Emily Johnson

Laura Emily Rutledge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Rutledge, was born March 15, 1864, near Astoria, Ill., and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.H. Finney, after an illness of over two years. She was 71 years, 11 months and 6 days.

She was united in marriage to O.H. Johnson November 6, 1881, to which union were born seven children, the first child dying in infancy, and her husband, preceding her in death May 15, 1917.

She leaves behind her children: Mrs. Ernest M. Countryman, Ottumwa, Iowa; Glade C. Johnson, Pasco, Washington; Claude R. Johnson, Scranton, Iowa; Homer Johnson, Glidden, Iowa; Gerald V. Johnson, Scranton, Iowa; Mrs. Morris H. Finney, Douds, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and one aged brother, James Rutledge, of Ottumwa, Ia.; and other relatives and friends.

In her youth she united with the Christian Church at Table Grove, Ill., and continued her faith throughout her entire life and at the time of her passing held her membership in the Union Church near the farm home where she lived so many years.

Funeral services were held at the Douds M.E. Church Sunday, at 1:30 p.m., in charge of Rev. Chas. Orcutt, of Douds. Interment was in Mt. Moriah cemetery.
