Mrs. Ed Jeffrey

Lurie Ethel Horne, the oldest child of Thomas and Gertrude Horne, was born Dec. 26, 1877 near Leando in Van Buren county, Iowa, and passed away at the St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa April 21, 1936 at the age of 58 years, 3 months and 21 days.

She was united in marriage on August 13, 1896 to Ed Jeffrey. To this union were born nine children, John of Batavia; George and William Pitt, of Enders, Neb.; Eugene, of Batavia; Van, of Higler, Neb.; Ralph, of Batavia; Roscoe and Lena at home; and Cora, of Douds, who with the husband survive her.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and by three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Hattie Rodibaugh of Libertyville; Mrs. Verna Crane, of Newton, Ia.; Mrs. Marie Shott, of Centralia, Mo.; Gilmore Horne, of Douds; Bruce, of Libertyville; and Glenn, of Booneville, Iowa; also one aunt, Mamie Grimes, of Fairfield.

In her early married life she lived on a farm near Birmingham Iowa. In 1910 she and her family moved to Chase County, Neb., where they lived for ten years. Since that time they have resided on the home farm, west of Birmingham.

At the age of thirteen she was converted and baptized at a Methodist revival at Leando.

Mrs. Jeffrey was a self sacrificing wife and mother, a kind and helpful neighbor and will be greatly missed in her circle and community. Her friends are numbered by her acquaintances.

Funeral services were conducted at the Zion Lutheran church and cemetery by Howard C. Irvine, pastor of Birmingham Presbyterian church.
