Mrs. Vina K. Bell

Vina K. Bell, daughter of John and Mary Barton, was born in Belmont county, Ohio, May 3, 1845, and passed away from this life Wednesday morning, February 12 about 8:00, in Kansas City, Mo., at the age of 90 years and 10 months.

She came to this state with her parents at the age of 2, in the fall of 1847 and has lived nearly her whole life in this state, coming to Farmington in 1921, 6 years ago she moved to Missouri where she made her home with her nephew, C. B. Clark in Kansas City.

On July 8, 1875 she was united in marriage to W. S. Bell, who passed on to a better world Dec. 24, 1924, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 18 days.

Mrs. Bell was very much liked by all who knew her. She was a member of the Sharon Presbyterian Church before coming to this town, she and Mr. Bell attended the First Baptist Church.

Mr. Bell sang bass in the choir for a number of years. During their fellowship in this Church and neighborhood, Mrs. Bell became an intimate of Mrs. Tom Lowry, who lived neighbor to her.

Mrs. Bell left the information for the necessary dates for her obituary in her own hand-writing. At the top of her information she stated her favorite funeral hymns, being “The City Four Square” and “Lead, Kindly Light.”

She leaves to mourn her death a niece, Linnie Dunn of Des Moines, Iowa and Ella Barton, Farmington; several nephews: C. B. Clark of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Alice Barton and family of Milton, Iowa; also Linnie Clark of Sharon.

Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church on Friday, Feb. 14, 1936 at 1:30. The pastor, M. R. Rogers spoke from Phil. 1:21, on living and dying. Burial was in the Sharon cemetery where Mr. Bell was buried 12 years ago. Mrs. Bell’s favorite funeral hymns “The City Four-square” and “Lead, Kindly Light”, were sung by Mrs. H. Halfman, Mrs. Hamlin, Mrs. Robert LaFollette, and Eleanor LaFollette.
