DAVID C. JOHNSON

David C., eldest son of Benjamin and Mary Johnson was born November 30, 1857, and passed away, July 29, 1941, at the age of 83 years, 8 months. He had lived all of his life on the tract of land that had been homesteaded by his father, who came to Iowa from Ohio in 1842. David was one of a family of ten children.

Three sisters are left of this large family, Mrs. Tracie Cramer of Rock Island, Ill., and Mattie and Cordelia Johnson at the old homestead.

In 1896 he built a new house not far from the brick home, and in the same year married Carrie Taylor of Highland county, Ohio.

Two children were born to this union, Paul Johnson and Mrs. Ellis Miller both living near Hillsboro. There are also three grandchildren surviving, Leland and Roland Johnson and Marjorie Miller. A number of nieces and nephews, with whom he loved to visit, likewise mourn his passing.

He had been frail for years and an illness beginning July 4 of this year, proved fatal. He was a very patient sufferer and face the fact, that he was constantly growing weaker, with great calmness and realized there could be but one outcome of his illness.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Hillsboro Christian church, conducted by Rev. Boyd. Interment in Hillsboro cemetery.
