C.E. Strong was in charge of the funeral services for John S. Hixson, 86, held from the home Monday afternoon, August 13. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of W.A. Harlan, Carl Sentman, Dr. C.E. Graves, and C.E. Strong.

John S. Hixson was born in Lee county, Iowa, May 20, 1848, the son of David and Phoebe Sayre Hixson. He passed from this life on August 11, 1934, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 22 days. His entire life was spent within a few miles of the place of his birth and death. On November 20, 1874 he was united in marriage to Dulcey Roe. About two years later they moved to the farm that remained the family home thru his entire life.

The wife preceded him in death in November 1928.

There were six children in the family, three daughters and three sons as follows: Daisy, a teacher in the public schools of Mt. Pleasant; Tyler, of Keosauqua; Mildred Lee, at home; H.B., of Hillsboro; David at home; and Mrs. Phebe G. Lewis, of Ozark Beach, Mo. Two brothers, D.L., of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and Boyd, of Hillsboro, a half-brother, A.B., of Salem and a half-sister, Kate of Hillsboro, together with ten grandchildren and other relatives remain to mourn this separation. Three brothers, James, George and Henry preceded him in death. Mr. Hixson had always been a farmer and took pride in the fruit of his labors. He had carried on his farm, garden, and horticultural work in health and vigor, until within a few weeks of his death. He had been a member of the Hillsboro Baptist church since early manhood.
