HARRIETT ALICE ELDER

Harriett Alice Holmes, daughter of Hugh Ferguson and Harriett Alice Holmes, was born in Fayette county, Ohio, March 3, 1850, and departed this life at 8:35 a. m. Dec. 24, 1932, being 82 years, 9 months and 21 days of age.

In 1859 she moved with her parents to Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Alfred Elder on Dec. 13, 1869. To this union eight children were born, six of who are living.

She is survived by two daughters, Dora May Fitzsimmons of Des Moines and Winnie Murrow of Mitchellville, and by four sons, William Howell of Des Moines, Isaac Norton of Woodward, Hugh Ferguson and Aurom Otis of Keosauqua. One child died in infancy, and a daughter, Margaret Ellen Linn, passed away Jan. 18, 1930. Her husband departed this life June 18, 1927.

Those who remains of her eight brothers and sisters are Mrs. Martha Parsons of Granger, Iowa and C. E. Parsons of Lemmon, S. Dakota.

She also had twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren living and two dead.

When just a girl she united with the Baptist church, later changing her membership to the Methodist church.

She was in good health until one week ago when she contracted a cold which developed into pneumonia and she quietly passed away at her home. Her children were all at her bedside with the exception of two sons who arrived later.

She was a loving wife and mother always willing to do all that she could for her family and ready to help her friends and neighbors at all times. She will be sadly missed by her children and many friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Keosauqua Methodist church on Monday afternoon, Dec. 26, 1932 at 1 o'clock in charge of Rev. Gilbert. Burial in Fellows cemetery. ----------------------------- We wish to thank our neighbors and friends for their help and kindness in the death of our mother. The Elder Family
