Jacob Boyer

Jacob, son of Andrew and Hannah Boyer, was born in Muskingon county, Ohio, September 28, 1846. He came with his parents and settled near Gorin, Mo. in 1857. He was united in marriage to Ensula Catherine Pinnell, of Milton, Ia., by the Rev. Elijah Brown, of the Methodist church, of South Prairie Chapel. They moved to a farm near what is now the Mt. Olive church. Here they made their home for many years.

There was born to the, Eva, now Mrs. Bert Eggleston, of Cantril; Virgie Celestia who passed away in January 1898, and Ezra Ross of Cantril. In the year of 1908 they left the farm with their son Ezra and moved to Cantril where they made their home for many years.

When but a young man of 26, he united with the Methodist church and then later the Mt. Olive church on the Memphis circuit. Then since coming to Cantril came into the Cantril M.E. church. Brother Boyer was an official member of the Cantril church, treasurer, trustee and steward. When they repaired the church at Cantril he helped with money and labor. He always kept his interest in the Mt. Olive church helping to repair its roof and encourage it in many other ways.

The last month he and his wife spent with the daughter, Mrs. Bert Eggleston where the end came quietly on Saturday evening, August 4. He leaves his wife and the children, Eva and Ezra, six grandchildren, three boys and 3 girls, and six great-grandchildren, two girls and four boys. Two brothers, also survive, Matison Boyer, of Memphis, Mo., and Eddie Boyer, of La Grange, Mo.

Funeral services were held at the Mt. Olive church, Monday at 2 o'clock, August 6, 1934. The services were conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Tennant of the Bloomfield Methodist Episcopal church. Music was furnished by the church choir. Interment was made in the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
