Richard J. Green

Richard J. Green, son of Samuel and Caroline Green, was born near Leando, Iowa, May 19, 1848, and died Feb. 22, 1935 at the age of 86 years and 9 months.

He was married to Mattie Minter, who passed away two days after his death, on Nov. 12, 1873, and to this union six children were born. Two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Wilson and Mrs. Ella Carruthers having preceded him in death.

The remaining children are: Mrs. Nannie Morris, of Troy, Iowa; Mrs. Grayce Laughlin, George and Wilbur Green, of Douds; and eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was a good kind neighbor and father, much loved by his children. He had expressed himself as being ready to meet his God.

Funeral services were in Pedrick Chapel, Saturday, Feb. 23, with the Rev. Stevens of Douds in charge. The Blue Lodge Masons of Douds under the direction of Mr. John Drake, of Ottumwa gave the Masonic service. Interment was made in the Troy cemetery.
