J.T. Roberts

John F. Roberts, son of John and Ellen Roberts, was born near St. David, Fulton County, Illinois June 12, 1887 and died in the Ottumwa hospital June 24, 1936 aged 49 years, 12 days.

He came to Scotland Co., Mo., with his parents when six years of age, where he has since resided.

He was married Oct. 17, 1909 to Mrs. Effie Southmayd. To this union were born four children. Lucille and Ernest at home and Mrs. Ted Robinson of near home and an infant daughter who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife and children and two grandchildren, Bobby and Vera Robinson; one brother of Bryant, Ill.; also two half-brothers and five half sisters. His father, mother, three half-brothers and one half-sister preceded him in death.

John was a public-spirited man, always ready to help with the support of the church and any worthy community enterprise.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A.M. Hadley Friday afternoon at the Brock church. A vast number of his friends gathered at the church to pay their last respect to this fine neighbor and upright citizen. At the grave the Masons gave their beautiful ritual ceremony and the body was laid to rest in the Brock cemetery.
