He never married and spent practically his entire life on the farm where he was born, helping to care for his aged mother and older brother. When his health failed and he was unable to care for himself, he went to make his home with his niece, Mrs. Bessie Randolph in Leon, who has cared for him since October 27, 1935.

Besides the one sister he leaves to mourn his departure, four nephews and two nieces: Alva and Orion Harper of Caldwell, Kansas; Ford Burrows of Weston, Missouri; Stanley Burrows of Milton; Mrs. O.A. Davis of Milton; Mrs. Bessie Randolph of Leon, Iowa; other relatives and numerous friends. Mr. Harper was a kind friend and neighbor and a good citizen.

Funeral services were held in the Milton Methodist church Thursday, June 11 at 2 p.m. in charge of the pastor, Rev. Hehner. Singers were Rev. Caughlin and Mrs. Helsel. The accompanist was Mrs. Sherwood. Interment was in the Milton cemetery.
