Douglas W. Ives, 60, of Jackson, AL, formerly of Birmingham, died April 13, 2014 in Jackson. He was born May 31, 1953 in Fairfield to Gene and Lydia Hinkle Ives. He grew up in the home of his foster parents Ernest and Betty Hinkle in Birmingham, attended Van Buren Community Schools, served in the U.S. Air Force, had worked many years at the Rock Island, IL Arsenal and was a truck driver.
Surviving are two daughters, Melanie Watts and family of Muscatine and Jacqueline Purdy and family of Muscatine, a sister, Debbie Cowder and family in Alaska, a brother, Dennis Ives of Mountain Home, AR, his step-father, Bob Denney in North Carolina, a sister, Dianne Payne and family in North Carolina, a step-sister, Shirley Denney of Burlington, two step-brothers, Wesley Denney in North Carolina and Richard Denney of Fairfield and his foster parents of Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-sister, Ava Denney and a step-brother, Philip Denney.
His body has been cremated. A memorial service will be at 1 P.M. Monday April 28, 2014 in Birmingham United Methodist Church, Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham. Gifts to a memorial to be designated later by the family may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 531 West Cedar, Birmingham, IA 52535.
