ARTHUR MCINTOSH TAKES HIS OWN LIFE

When Mr. and Mrs. Harry McIntosh were returning from Sunday school at Center Chapel last Sunday morning they stopped at the McIntosh homestead for a visit with his brother, Arthur, who had been living there alone and operating the farm.

They and the entire community were shocked to find him lying dead on a couch, and a letter indicating that he had taken his own life on the previous Wednesday. He used a rifle of 22 caliber and shot himself in the head, death resulting instantly.

Since the death of his father, John W. McIntosh, about two years ago, Arthur had been operating the home farm, part of the time he had a housekeeper but had recently been doing his own housekeeping.

Livestock on the place had not been taken care of since his death, some of the animals being confined to their stables.

He is survived by three brothers, Curtis W., Harry L. and Floyd.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at Center Chapel with interment in the adjacent cemetery. Rev. M. E. Hayes was the officating minister.

Arthur Wesley, son of John W. and Lizzie A. McIntosh was born near Keosauqua, Iowa on January 8, 1894 and departed this life December 2, 1931 at the age of 37 years, 10 months and 24 days.

He grew to manhood on the home farm, and spent his entire life there.

He was the fourth of five children, his sister having preceded him in death in 1901. His mother followed in the year of 1904.

For over four years after the death of his step-mother he lovingly cared for his aged father who passed away on November 28, 1929.

He is survived by three brothers, Curtis W. of near Bonaparte, Harry L. of near Keosauqua and Floyd D. of Conesville, Ohio, also one neice [sic] and two nephews besides a host of other relatives.

He was a faithful member of the M. E. church and was always ready to lend a helping hand where ever needed.
