OBITUARY

Eliza Catherine Seamster, daughter of the Rev. John W. and Barbara Ellen Seamster was born in Schuyler county, Missouri, on April 19, 1865 and passed from this life at her home in Milton, on October 8, 1920, at six o'clock in the evening. She was 55 years, 5 months and 19 days days old at the time of her death.

She come [sic] to Iowa with her parents when a young woman and lived until her marriage in Chequest township, Van Buren county. There she was maried [sic] to Charles N. Groves, September 27th, 1886. Eighteen years in August, the family moved to Milton and their home has been here since that time.

One son, Louis W. preceeded his mother in death, dying in 1902, at the age of four years. She is survived by her husband, her mother, one brother, Louis E. Seamster, of Galva, Kansas, six children, Mrs. Sarah Roberts, Mrs. Lillie Cooper, Mrs. Cora Knox, Willis Groves, Mrs. Florence Gibbons and Miss Villa Groves, also eleven grandchildren.

Mrs. Groves has been sick and confined to her room since last January. She suffered intensely but with all her suffering she was patient and cheerful. She enjoyed company and was always pleased to visit with her friends when able to do so.

She professed conversion when a young woman but had never united with any church. She encouraged her children in church membership and attendance.

The funeral services were held at the residence on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 conducted by the Rev. P. M. Conant. A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holland, Mrs. W. D. Sherwood and Mr. J. E. Parr sang several hymns. After the services the body was laid to rest in the Sunnyside cemetery.

"Bury me near the old home
There let me sleep.
Bury me where my friends
May ga[ther?] [?] and weep,
Where the friends who knew me best,
May linger near,
And on my silent grave,
May drop a parting tear."
