DEATH OF MRS. ALLEN VAN AUKEN
Cora Thurman Van Auken was born July 26, 1869, and died Nov 8, 1905, at her home in Keosauqua, Iowa. She was married to Allen Van Auken Oct. 20, 1889 at Muscatine, Iowa. Four children blessed their union, Clark, Oleatha, Fern and Hazel, the second named dying in 1897. She was a devoted wife and mother and found room in her heart for other children, lavishing her love upon them as to win them to her. As a neighbor and friend none excelled her in kindness and solicitude. She became a christian 9 years ago, uniting with the Mt. Sterling Christian church. As a christian she was ever willing to do that which fell to her lot, many times going beyond her strength in the attempt to help others. A husband, mother, five sisters and two brothers besides her chldren mourn her untimely taking away, and all have the sympathy of our people in their affliction. She has gone from us never to return but, happy thought, we can go to her. The funeral service was held at the Christian church in Keosauqua Eld. W. L. Post officiating, and the burial was in the Mt. Sterling cemetery. The bereaved relatives wish to thank their friends and neighbors for the assistance given and kindly sympathy shown them during their affliction.
