Ronald Dee Cass, AFCM, USN (Ret.) died on Memorial Day, May 27, 2013, at the age of 74. He was born in Birmingham, Iowa on April 30, 1939, to Warren and Kathryn Cass. He attended Bonaparte High School, graduating in 1956 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Bernadette in Farmington, Iowa, on April 28, 1962.

The Navy sent Ron on many overseas cruises and assignments to Whidbey Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Japan, the Philippines and finally, back to Whidbey. He retired in June of 1980 as an AFCM.

Following retirement, Ron went to work at the Honda Motorcycle Shop across from Berg Ford, then as an aircraft mechanic for Harbor Air. He returned to NAS Whidbey, working as a contract employee for Brown & Root, DelJen and finally for Chugach before retiring again.

Ron loved working on cars and motorcycles and taking road trips. He and Bernie traveled by motorcycle to Reno several years ago.

Ron was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Whitehead-Muzzail Post 7392, American Legion, George Morris Post 129, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 97 and the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge #2362, all of Oak Harbor, Washington.

Ron is survived by his wife Bernie, two children, Barbara (David) Keen of Kennewick, Washington, and Ronald D. Cass, Jr., of Mt. Vernon, one brother, Marvin Cass of Solon, Iowa, and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Calvary Cemetery in West Point, Iowa.

Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with arrangements.
