Ruby L. Beatty, 90, of Keosauqua died at 1:38 A.M. Thursday May 15, 2014 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. She was born June 10, 1923 in Fort Madison to Earl George and Catherine Freeman Owens and married Warren Beatty April 4, 1948 at Fort Madison.

Ruby lived most of her life north of Keosauqua on the Beatty Family Farm and worked as a Librarian at the Keosauqua Public Library for 20 years, prior to this she worked as a cook in the school kitchen. In 1988 Warren and Ruby retired and moved to town. She was a member of Neighborhood Book Club, Mother’s Club, UMW- Ruth Circle, Van Buren Players, Van Buren Historical Society and sang in the adult choir at the Keosauqua United Methodist Church. Ruby loved traveling, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and attending her grandchildren’s activities and events.

Surviving are her husband, four daughters, Sharon Carr (Melvin) of Keosauqua, Carolyn Harryman (Marvin) of Burlington, Sue McKeehan (Frank) of Clear Lake, SD, and Claudia Nicol (Ray) of Mason, MI, a son, David Beatty of Burlington, 17 grandchildren and their spouses, two step-granddaughters and their spouses and several great-grandchildren, a sister, Earlene Jones (Leon) of Fort Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Lyle Owens.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday May 19, 2014 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Douglas Harding and Rev. Frank McKeehan officiating. Visitation with family will be an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua.

Memorials to Keosauqua Public Library or Keosauqua Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 306 Van Buren St., Keosauqua, IA 52565.
