EDWIN DE WITT

Edwin DeWitt, 93, of Stockport died at 11:15 A.M. Tuesday March 17, 2009 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua where he had resided since April 2004. He was born July 20, 1915 at Stockport to Frank Festus and Sarah Frances Ankrom DeWitt. Ed graduated from Stockport High School in 1934, served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the African and European campaigns during World War II and was awarded seven Bronze stars, one for each battle he was in. He lived many years in Portland, OR where he was employed as a mail clerk with the U.S. Postal Service, and retired to Stockport in 1976. He was a long-time member of Workman Lodge No. 634, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, Stockport.

Survivors include his twin sister, Edna DeWitt Flack of Waterloo, his special friend and caregiver, Betty Gwinnup of Stockport and several nieces and nephews including Patricia Plueger of Anamosa and Edwin Flack of Cedar Falls, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Opha Peters, Effie White, Bonnie Watson, and Orin, Harry and Wallace DeWitt.

An open to the public Masonic service was held Wednesday March 25, 2009 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua. Virgil Morris presided. Burial with military rites by Elvin E. Cecil Post No. 147, American Legion, Stockport was in Spencer Cemetery northeast of Stockport. Memorials to Spencer Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 513, Keosauqua IA 52565.
