C. Johnson Dies At 61

Carl E. Johnson, 61, lifelong resident of Jefferson County, died suddenly about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday at his farm home five miles northwest of Birmingham.

Last rites will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with the Jack Weida officiating.

Johnson had resided at his present farm home on Birmingham Route 1 for the past 23 years. He was born Feb. 8, 1912 in Fairfield, the son of Herman and Ida Sanquist Johnson. He was married to Opal Lee Sept. 6, 1941. He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his widow; a son, Roger Johnson, Lafayette, La.; a daughter, Mrs. Gary Bonar, Muscatine; and one granddaughter.

Also surviving are a brother, Leonard Johnson, San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Harry Baker, Fairfield; a step-sister, Mrs. Wesley Greenfield, Fairfield; two step-brothers, Gene Leedy, Fairfield, and Don Leedy, Portland, Ore.; and his step-mother, Mrs. Herman Johnson, Fairfield. One step-brother is deceased.
