Irene L. Spilman
SELMA -- Irene L. Spilman, 82, of Selma died at 4:15 a.m. March 15, 1998, at Nelson Care Center in Fairfield.
She was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Wapello County to Guy and Mabel Hodson Acton. She married Clarence Spilman on June 6, 1936, in Milton. He died on June 23, 1974.
She was raised and educated in Wapello County, graduating from the Batavia High School in 1935. She was a nurse's aide at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center for several years before moving to Jefferson City, Mo., in 1958.
She received her Licensed Practical Nurse degreee and was employed in Jefferson City until retirement in 1980. Shortly after retirement, she moved back to Selma until entering the Nelson Care Center in December 1997.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet Sloan and Anna Swartz, both of Batavia and Virginia Bruemmer of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Talbott of Birmingham, Maxine DeBurn of Ottumwa and Barbara Daine of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Ferne Miller and a brother, James Acton.
The service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon, the Rev. David Albert officiating.
Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery in Eldon.
Open visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Richard Swartz, David Sloan, Robert Millhouse, Ralph Smith, Floyd and Donnie Spilman.
A memorial fund has been established and may be left at the funeral home.
